Grabovac Fortress

by

Fortress Trašte (popularly known as fortress Grabovac) is the youngest fortress in the Bay of Kotor, built before the war for more efficient defense of Tivat, where the navy was located, about which you can find out more on a tourist board next to the entrance. A short path towards it goes next to the infantry base and the large cistern, where the water is still collected. Through the spacious throat of the fortress, you will reach the entrance to the barracks and that is the point where your exploratory adventure can begin. To make it easier to navigate, there were rooms for the army on the ground floor, and on the upper floor there is a corridor leading to the combat part, with four armored batteries and one observation post, all protected by heavy metal domes. The remains of these metal structures are still in place today. In that part you can find the entrance to the underground corridor, 400 meters long, which led to the infantry base at the top of the ridge towards the Bay of Trašte. There is a legend about this corridor, when a goat wandered into it. The poor animal would surely have died in the dark, if a group of men had not dared to go on the adventure of passing through the tunnel. Their meeting with the goat remained unforgettable, because it was not known who was more frightened – the men or the goat. They fled in panic from the „monster of darkness“, and the goat chased them frantically. And then, as befits the end of each story, seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, they were all happily saved and calmed down.
