Vrmac Fortress

by

One of the largest and most important fortresses for the defense of the Austro-Hungarian military port in the Bay of Kotor, fortress Vrmac was built in the 1880s. It was regularly upgraded and rearmed until the First World War – with heavy iron shields on artillery batteries and armored rotating domes on the roof, which still stand in their place today. At the beginning of the war, Vrmac was damaged by shelling of Montenegrin artillery from the position below Lovćen. You can find out more about all this on a tourist board next to the fortress, if you head to the peninsula and mountain Vrmac. Today, it represents a favorite destination for hikers and lovers of hiking trails, which lead through the magical Mediterranean nature all the way to the most beautiful viewpoints overlooking the Bay of Kotor. Since the end of the First World War, fortress Vrmac has been abandoned. A few years ago, a monk lived in it for a short time, who liked to paint frescoes on the walls. Your task would be to find them!
